IWD is also call to action for accelerating women&#8217;s equality; Embrace Equity is the 2023 theme. Per IWD: The aim of the IWD 2023 #EmbraceEquity campaign theme is to get the world talking about why equal opportunities aren&#8217;t enough. People start from different places, so true inclusion and belonging require equitable action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph core-block core-paragraph\">We caught up with members of PTC\u2019s Women+ International Network (W+IN) Employee Resource Group (ERG) to hear their perspectives on why gender equity is important, what it means to pay it forward and what being part of the W+IN ERG means to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why is gender equity important to you?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph core-block core-paragraph\"><strong>Lakshmi Sreekumar<\/strong><br>Associate Director, Sourcing<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"178\" height=\"211\" src=\"https:\/\/panel.ptcbio.com\/es\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2023\/03\/shri.png\" alt=\"Lakshmi Sreekumar\" class=\"wp-image-12355\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph core-block core-paragraph\">As a Talent Acquisition professional, gender equity makes the recruitment of great talents easier and is essential for organizations to perform at the highest levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph core-block core-paragraph\">There is a quote that I always remember: \u00abA leader is great, not because of his or her power, but because of his or her ability to empower others.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph core-block core-paragraph\">This is especially important to me because women can be powerful allies for other women; we can champion one another by doing simple things every day to celebrate and advocate for our female coworkers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph core-block core-paragraph\"><strong>Nnea David-Matthews<\/strong><br>Executive Director, HR Business Partner<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/panel.ptcbio.com\/es\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2023\/03\/nnea.jpg\" alt=\"Nnea David-Matthews\" class=\"wp-image-12354\" width=\"180\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/panel.ptcbio.com\/es\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2023\/03\/nnea.jpg 359w, https:\/\/panel.ptcbio.com\/es\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2023\/03\/nnea-224x300.jpg 224w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 180px) 100vw, 180px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph core-block core-paragraph\">Gender equity is important to me because it saves lives, results in better healthcare, it\u2019s good for the economy, leads to better legal protections, leads to better racial equality and reduces poverty and human trafficking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph core-block core-paragraph\">Specifically, as it applies to businesses; when women receive the same education and job opportunities as men, they can improve any organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph core-block core-paragraph\">Research shows that diversity of all types increases an organizations\u2019 productivity and innovation. Women who receive better education, healthcare and job opportunities tend to thrive and improve the future \u201coutlook\u201d for their children and families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph core-block core-paragraph\">Finally, research shows that when a country addresses major gaps in gender inequality such as education and employment, it fosters peace by reducing the likelihood of military force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Paying it forward<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph core-block core-paragraph\"><strong>Maureen Mason<\/strong><br>Area Business Manager, Ireland<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"233\" height=\"233\" src=\"https:\/\/panel.ptcbio.com\/es\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2023\/03\/maureen.png\" alt=\"Maureen Mason\" class=\"wp-image-12353\" srcset=\"https:\/\/panel.ptcbio.com\/es\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2023\/03\/maureen.png 233w, https:\/\/panel.ptcbio.com\/es\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2023\/03\/maureen-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 233px) 100vw, 233px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph core-block core-paragraph\">I started my career over 40 years ago as a Nurse and was inspired by the first patient I met, a young man who was paralyzed but had a great outlook on life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph core-block core-paragraph\">While my career changed to industry, I had a brief interlude working at National level for the rare diseases community and became hooked! She died with cancer a few years ago, and this was when my journey with PTC started. I knew I wanted to make a difference by fighting for the lives of other people in my life;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph core-block core-paragraph\">I work in HR and feel good to support our stakeholders, but the call for saving other people\u2019s lives is what moves me underneath.
